First edition. – Amusingly illustrated parody of the German national opera published in 1822, which Carl Maria von Weber is said to have been inspired to write by a ghost story book of the time. Cruikshank engraved the illustrations based on designs by the young Alfred Crowquill (1804–1872). – Beautiful, clean and decoratively bound copy from the library of Ernst August, King of Hanover (1771-1851), with coat of arms stamp on the reverse of the title page.
