Abb. im Text. – Der Photo-Club de Paris wurde 1888 „durch Abspaltung von der Société Francaise de Photographie mit dem Ziel, künstlerische Belange in der Fotografie zu fördern. Er wurde also in der Zeit gegründet, als die Stilrichtung des Piktorialismus in der Fotografie aufkam. … Die Première Exposition d’Art Photographique war die erste öffentliche Ausstellung des Photo-Club de Paris und fand vom 10. bis zum 30. Januar 1894 in den Galeries Georges Petit in der Pariser Rue de Sèze statt. Es war die erste französische Ausstellung mit kunstfotografischen Werken und weltweit eine der bedeutendsten im ausgehenden 19. Jahrhundert. Da man die Anerkennung der Fotografie als Kunstform anstrebte, waren außer zwei Fotografen in der zehnköpfigen Ausstellungsjury fünf Maler, ein Bildhauer und ein Kunstkritiker vertreten; den Vorsitz hatte Armand Dayot, Inspekteur der schönen Künste. Die Veranstaltung war international ausgerichtet, es stellten außer französischen auch ausländische Fotografen aus, darunter solche aus den USA, dem Vereinigten Königreich und Deutschland. Der Club löste sich im Jahr 1928 auf“ (Wikipedia). – „Der vom eleganten Photo-Club de Paris 1894 gegründete Salon hatte eine ähnliche Wirkung in Frankreich wie der Linked Ring in England. Maurice Bucquet, sein Mitbegründer und Präsident, machte von Straßenszenen ungewöhnlich stimmungsvolle Aufnahmen, deren Effekte auf rein photographischem Wege erzielt waren. Der Bankier Robert Demachy und der schon genannte „Commandante“ Constant Puyo erlangten mit ihren Gummidrucken weltweit Berühmtheit“ (H. Wallon, as well as numerous illustrations in the text. – The Photo-Club de Paris was founded in 1888 “by splitting off from the Société Francaise de Photographie with the aim of promoting artistic interests in photography. It was thus founded at the time when the pictorialist style was emerging in photography. … The Première Exposition d’Art Photographique was the first public exhibition of the Photo-Club de Paris and took place from January 10 to 30, 1894 at the Galeries Georges Petit in the Rue de Sèze in Paris. It was the first French exhibition of art photography and one of the most important in the world at the end of the 19th century. As the aim was to have photography recognized as an art form, the ten-member exhibition jury consisted of two photographers, five painters, a sculptor and an art critic, and was chaired by Armand Dayot, Inspector of Fine Arts.
