Warhol, Cows, Collage
Warhol, Cows, Collage
Warhol, Andy (1928-1987). Yellow Cows. Collage, col. paper and silkscreen under plexiglass; monogrammed and inscribed in felt-tip pen. „Factory“. New York (1966). Sheet size 27.2 x 20 cm. mounted on gray cardboard. The screen print series “Cow Wallpaper”, also a room installation, was designed by Andy Warhol in 1966 – “In the original version, the screen print, arranged on wallpaper panels as a ‘repeat’ in countless repetitions, always shows the same portrait of a cow in three-quarter profile in pink fluorescent paint on a signal yellow background. The portrait is cut at the top or bottom edge at the end of each panel, indicating the serial design and intended use and allowing the next panel to be added. The individual images each measure 115.5 × 75.5 cm. The halftone dots on the images indicate that they are enlarged sections of a newspaper photograph. Warhol had in fact taken the image from a magazine about agriculture. Warhol subsequently printed numerous color variations and reversals of the motif” (Wikipedia).
