First edition of the luxury edition with page borders in red as well as mont. Landscape photographs and photographs after drawings by Felix Joseph Barrias instead of the wood engraving illustrations in the normal edition. – One of the earliest examples of the use of photographs in book illustration. – Hinges somewhat rubbed, the photographs somewhat faded as usual, a fine copy in the decorative publisher’s binding from the library of the French politician Jean Charles Marie Cruppi (1855-1919). Cruppi was Minister of Foreign Affairs and Justice in Ernest Moni’s cabinet.
