1 Haydée – Woihsyk, Rainer (Hrsg.). Marcia Haydée. Einführung Klaus Geitel. Grußwort Lothar Späth. Texte Maurice Béjart, Richard Cragun, John Neumeier. Stuttgart und Zürich, Belser Verlag (1987). 4°. 24 S. mit 112 Duotone-Tafeln von Michael Dannemann, Sabine Feil, Hannes Kilian, Leslie E. Spatt, Charles Tandy und Bernhard Widmann. Orig.-Pappband mit farbig illustr. Schutzumschlag.

Erste Ausgabe. Hoop in fembio(dot)org). – Die Widmungsempfängerin A. Schmidt war seit Anfang der 2000er Jahre Professorin für Klassischen Tanz, Repertoire und Variationen an der Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main (HfMDK). – Sehr gutes Exemplar.
First edition. – With a handwritten dedication by M. Haydée to Frankfurt-based dance teacher Angela Schmidt. – “The name Marcia Haydée is inextricably linked with the rise of the Stuttgart Ballet to the very top of the international dance world, as well as with its director, John Cranko. When, following her training at the Royal Ballet School in London, her first performances at the theatre in her hometown of Rio, and a four-year engagement with the Grande Compagnie du Marquis de Cuevas, she came to Stuttgart for an audition, she immediately impressed Cranko, even though at that time she did not yet possess a polished technique, was overweight and lacked experience. He must have sensed her great acting talent, which served her equally well in both tragic and comic roles. Haydée became Cranko’s muse and inspired him to create his finest works. Her Julia, her Tatyana in Onegin, her Katharina in The Taming of the Shrew, or – in John Neumeier’s choreography – the Lady of the Camellias and Blanche in A Streetcar Named Desire (to name but a few of her roles) remain unforgettable. … In the 1960s, the Stuttgart Ballet, with Haydée at the helm, conquered the ballet strongholds of Leningrad, Moscow, New York and London one after the other, thrilling audiences all over the world during its tours. Following Cranko’s sudden death in 1973, Haydée was offered the position of his successor, which she did not accept until three years later. She strove to preserve his choreographies and also upheld his family-oriented leadership style: the dancers referred to her as the ‘mother of the company’. At the same time, she nurtured talent and gave young choreographers, such as William Forsythe, the opportunity to stage productions at the Stuttgart Theatre. In the 1980s, she developed a close collaboration with Maurice Béjart, whom she inspired as a dancer in much the same way as Cranko had done in his day. Haydée eventually embarked on a new career as a choreographer. … In 1996, she announced her departure as ballet director. She withdrew from the limelight for two years, but she could not live without dance. She did not return to the stage as a ballerina, but instead made her mark in ‘dance theatre’ with the Brazilian dancer Ismael Ivo as her partner (A. v. Hoop in fembio(dot)org). – The dedicatee, A. Schmidt, had been a professor of classical dance, repertoire and variations at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK) since the early 2000s. – A very fine copy.
