Thondike traced an anti-Copernican strand in his De praecognoscendis (1616), due to the reading of Gilbert’s De magnete. In his early days, he was a friend to Giovan Vincenzo Della Porta and his De neomeniis (1599) reveals that he supported the Copernican tables underlying the calender reform“ (M.
