(Alle frühere Ausgaben). – Achte und letzte deutsche Ausgabe der reich illustrierten, zuerst 1629-1630 erschienenen Weltchronik. Die Bände II und III erschienen 1745 und 1759 mit dem Titel „Fortgesetzte Historische Chronick…“ – „Obwohl die späteste Ausgabe, ist sie doch wegen der verbesserten Register und Texte die brauchbarste“ (Wüthrich). – Unter den Textkupfern viele von historischem Quellenwert, wie z. B. das des Prager Fenstersturzes, die Ansicht einer Druckwerkstatt, die faustähnliche Darstellung eines Gelehrten mit Höllenhund etc. – Der Theologe, Übersetzer, Autor, Herausgeber und Korrektor Johann Ludwig Gottfried (1584-1633) kam durch seine lateinische Nacherzählung von Ovids Metamorphosen in Oppenheim in Beziehung zum Verlagshaus de Bry und wirkte dort u. a. als Mitarbeiter von Matthaeus Merian dem Älteren. – Der Verleger Hutter kam in den Besitz vieler Kupferplatten des Hauses Merian, das in den Jahren um 1740 seine Tätigkeit einstellte. Zuerst veröffentlichte Hutter 1743 die Gottfried’sche Chronik neu mit der Bezeichnung ‚Erster Teil‘. Viele der Kupfer stammen aus Merians „Theatrum Europaeum“. – Einband berieben und am Kapital geringfügig eingerissen, ohne den Titelkupfer, Drucktitel alt aufgezogen und fleckig, einige meist restaurierte Randläsuren, stellenweise etwas braunfleckig, sonst sehr gut erhaltenes, bis auf das Frontispiz vollständiges Exemplar.
The eighth and final German edition of the richly illustrated *Weltchronik*, first published in 1629–1630. Volumes II and III were published in 1745 and 1759 under the title *Fortgesetzte Historische Chronick…* – “Although this is the latest edition, it is nevertheless the most useful due to the improved indexes and texts” (Wüthrich). – Among the text plates are many of historical documentary value, such as the one depicting the Defenestration of Prague, a view of a printing workshop, and the Faust-like depiction of a scholar with a hellhound, etc. – The theologian, translator, author, editor and proofreader Johann Ludwig Gottfried (1584–1633) came into contact with the de Bry publishing house in Oppenheim through his Latin retelling of Ovid’s *Metamorphoses* and worked there, amongst other things, as an assistant to Matthaeus Merian the Elder. – The publisher Hutter came into possession of many copper plates from the Merian firm, which ceased operations around 1740. Hutter first republished Gottfried’s chronicle in 1743 under the title ‘First Part’. Many of the copper plates originate from Merian’s *Theatrum Europaeum*. – The binding is scuffed and slightly torn at the head, without the title copperplate; the printed title page is old and mounted, and is stained; there are some marginal discolorations, mostly restored; there are some brown spots in places; otherwise a very well-preserved copy, complete except for the frontispiece.
